Why I am a Firefighter

Be a firefighter for our kids
Recently a local newspaper asked a couple of my firemen why they were firefighters? Their answer was simply, "Well I guess someone has to do it."
Their answer kind of embarrassed me & made me realize a few things.
I am a fire fighter to serve my community, to help those who can not help themselves. I will run into a burning house to save lives, I will fight a wildland fire to protect others and I will be in a parade to show my friends I care.
When I do things to help others, I only think of my wife and kids. Some day if I am not there to protect them I hope and pray that someone will be.
Maybe just a passerby or possibly someone returning a favor.
I love the town I serve in and the people in it, I want to do everything I can to protect it.
Last year we lost a member of our little community, it was a great loss. He was a police officer who died while on a search & rescue mission. People came from all over the state to pay tribute to him. I was lucky enough to be a part of the motorcade in our fire truck.
I am not sure of how many police and hwy patrol cars were involved, but it is 12 miles from our town to the town where the funeral was, and when the first police car arrived at the cemetery the last one was just leaving the church. Then the public took around an hour to arrive in their pov's. What a honor to be a part of this.
These and many other reasons are why I am a Firefighter.
