Smith and Wesson Firefighter Pocketknife

A special issue, the Smith and Wesson firefighter pocketknife carries the legendary Smith & Wesson brand. Here is my size-up:
Size-up The Smith and Wesson firefighter pocketknife has the following points to consider: Pros: The first thing that I noticed is that the liner lock appears to be thicker than what is found on most knives. When the blade is opened, the liner lock “clicks” soundly into the base of the blade to prevent any accidental closing. There are two guards that help to protect your fingers while using the Smith & Wesson firefighter pocketknife. The guards also serve to give you a better grip on the handle. Cons: The handle of the knife is flat and very smooth which made it hard for me to open. Even without gloves it takes some practice to get this knife to open with one hand. (The locking mechanism can be released while wearing gloves but you need to use your index finger instead of your thumb). Although the handle is red it is a lighter color compared to most of the firefighter knives. Depending on the light, the handle at times can appear almost pink.

Comments Combined with its slim design, the lightweight (less than 3.0 ounces) of the Smith and Wesson pocketknife may be preferred when wearing jeans or dress uniform pants. The knife is available in either a plain or partially serrated (combo) blade. Although the knife would not be my first choice as an all around pocketknife, the fact that it is made by Smith & Wesson gives it some additional value. I would probably carry it more as an off-duty knife based upon the review.
