Fire Safety
By practicing good fire safety in the home, the number of fire deaths and injuries can be greatly reduced. As members of the fire service, it is critically important that we do all that we can to prevent fires from occurring.
Obviously, the less fires there are the lower the amount of fire related injuries. Although the goal of fire prevention is to reduce the number of fires and fire related injuries, there is an added benefit to firefighters. Whenever the number of fires are reduced, the chances of firefighter injuries are lowered as well. Since a large percentage of firefighter injuries occur responding to or returning from a fire scene, the fewer fire calls there are, the less chances there are for vehicle accidents. Of course, the injuries that occur at the fire scene will also be reduced due to less fires.
The following are fire prevention tips that should be made readily available to members of the community:
Bedroom Fires
Claim nearly 600 lives each year.
Candles
Account for over 160 fatalities each year.
Children Cigarette Smoking Cooking Electrical Escape Plans Generators Holidays Manufactured Homes Smoke Alarms Seniors Winter Fires Although our job is to extinguish fires when they occur, it is also our responsibility to prevent them from happening in the first place. By educating the public on proper fire safety tips we can reduce the number of fire related injuries to both the citizens and our fellow firefighters.
