The Columbia River firefighter pocketknife M16-13FDZ is a very tough knife. Made especially for firefighters, there is a lot to like.
Here is my size-up:
Review
The Columbia River Fire Fighter pocket knife offers the following:
Pros: A big thing that I like about this knife is the ease of opening. With the Carson Flipper it is literally a flick of the index finger and the blade is open and locked into place.
Which brings me to the second thing I like about this firefighter pocketknife, safety. Thanks to the AutoLAWK system there are actually two safety measures on this blade.
Another plus that the Carson Flipper offers is an excellent finger guard. When the blade is extended, the flipper point helps to protect your finger as well as provides an additional safety.
I found that the handle of the Columbia River firefighter pocketknife fit nicely in my hand and offers a good firm grip.
Teflon bearings at the point where the blade pivots makes this a smooth operating knife as well.
Cons: The only drawback I can find with this pocketknife is trying to close it while wearing gloves. Due to the small release on top of the blade and the recessed liner lock release, it is nearly impossible to close the knife with gloves on.

Comments In addition to the Columbia River firefighter pocketknife M16-13FDZ, Columbia River Knife and Tool offers two other Fire Department models.
The M16-14FDZ (Big Dog) is a heavier knife than the M16-13 and comes with a Tanto blade. A smaller version is the M16-12FDZ (little bulldog) which also offers the Tanto blade.
The Columbia River Fire Department pocketknife is one of my favorites. Not only do I have it with me at the fire station but I carry it on my off days as well. About the only time I don’t have this knife clipped to my pocket is when I’m at church.
Considering the price and quality of this knife I think it is a good buy.
